Library Fellowships

The Catherine N. Norton Fellowship

Cathy Norton (1941-2014) directed the MBLWHOI Library for nearly two decades as a true visionary in the area of information science. This fellowship celebrates her commitment to sharing knowledge and information, her ability to inspire, her “just do it” attitude, and her love of a challenge.

The fellowship covers approved expenses for students and early career librarians, archivists, data science professionals or scholars in the humanities or sciences. We encourage applicants to develop creative projects in Archives, Informatics, Collection Analysis, or Digital Collections with a Library mentor.  Projects should be openly accessible, collaborative, innovative, connective, and laying the foundation for new scientific knowledge. Applicants can also select to work on an existing project for the Library. Please see the projects page for a full list of potential projects.

Interested individuals should complete the application and submit all additional information as described to the MBL Library Director, 7 MBL Street, Woods Hole, MA 02543 or to jwalton@mbl.edu.

Mary Sears Endowed Visitor Program

Deadline: 1 March annually

The Mary Sears Endowed Visitor Program was established by a bequest from Mary Sears. It was her intention to provide an exchange of "information about oceanography to nations where it is not otherwise available". Awards will provide funds for travel, living expenses, laboratory space and equipment for scientists, technicians, and librarians visiting WHOI. Please contact the DLA at dla@whoi.edu for more information.
