Projects & Collaborations
The MBLWHOI Library is involved in numerous collaborative projects. A few of these projects are listed below.
Biodiversity Heritage Library
The Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL) is a consortium of 12 natural history and botanical libraries that cooperate to digitize and make accessible the legacy literature of biodiversity held in their collections and to make that literature available for open access and responsible use as a part of a global “biodiversity commons.”
The MBLWHOI Library is involved in numerous aspects of the BHL including scanning of original source materials and technical infrastructure.
MBL History Project
In collaboration with the Center for Biology and Society at Arizona State University, the MBLWHOI Library has worked to develop the HPS Repository for multiple users to archive materials related to a wide variety of projects in the history and philosophy of science. Drawing upon these materials, two major websites are supported. The Embryo Project Encyclopedia records and contextualizes the science of embryos, development and reproduction. MBL’s great history for over a century of hosting the Embryology course and researchers from all over the world provides the encyclopedia with a wealth of information. The History of the Marine Biological Laboratory website highlights the rich history of the institution. A number of tools are being designed to support both the repository.
