Celebrate Open Access Week 2024 with Us!

Open Access Week 2024 is just around the corner! This annual event, taking place from October 20-26, is a global celebration of the open access movement, which aims to make research and scholarly works freely accessible to everyone. Open access is more than just a publishing model; it embodies the principles of transparency, collaboration, and equity in knowledge sharing.

OA Week Theme for 2024
This year's Open Access Week theme continues to emphasize “Community over Commercialization.” This theme invites us to prioritize approaches to open scholarship that serve the best interests of the public and the academic community. It encourages discussions around community governance, academic autonomy, and centering equity in knowledge production.

At the MBLWHOI Library, we are proud to support open access initiatives, including our open access institutional repository, WHOAS, where researchers can share their work without barriers. We also have ongoing projects aimed at promoting open data practices and enhancing the visibility of research conducted within our community.

Join us for an informal Open Access discussion
To mark this important week, we will be hosting two open discussions on the significance of open access and its impact on research and education. All are welcome to join either session (or both)!
